SAUER FAMILY HISTORY

In 1845, Johann Friedrich Sauer emigrated from Germany to Fredericksburg, Texas, a small town in the Central part of the state, settled by German immigrants. There he found land that, although warmer, was much like the country that he had left, with wooded hillsides and lush grassy valleys. As he had in Germany, Sauer began raising livestock. This would be a lifelong passion for him, and that passion would be passed down through five generations to today.

The log home that Sauer built when he first arrived, along with the hand hewn limestone rock home that he built as the family grew, have been preserved. They are now part of the living history farm and presentation of the LBJ National Park in Stonewall.
Today's generation of Sauer's, Gordon and Ryan, continue the tradition of their family, raising quality seedstock to contribute to the cattle industry. Gordon's family lives in a 125 year old restored rock home just 8 miles from where Gordon's great-grandfather settled.
